2010 - The Year of the Seafarer! An excellent and fitting tribute to those whose thankless work is largly ignored or unappreciated. Stand up in solidarity with seafarers and join me on a bike ride to remember. I look forward to your company!
The end of a long day from Liverpool Cathederal to the Seafarers Centre in Hull. Whatever tiredness I felt, it was instantly forgotten with this rousing reception. I recall that some of these guys were from a ship that had been abandoned by the Operator and were toally reliant on the support they received from the visiting chaplains, visitors and at the Centre.
The purpose of this ride was to raise £5k in order to pay for a fund-raising reception held at the official apartments of the then Speaker of the House of Commons, Michael Martin. (For everything else thre is Mastercard!) The result was incredible - in excess of £17k! In turn, the fund-raiser raised more thant £40k. So satisfying.
